And I know it well - Germany 2010-07

Blood Bank - Bon Iver

Germany, Here we go again !
Before to reach Berlin, I had to take a plane in Paris. Good opportunity to visit a little bit of the capital on a sunny summer day. My rucksack was heavy and it was hard to carry it all day long. The parisian Metro is a wild animal. It breathes. The air it exhales is burning and stifling. You feel like you're suffocating, needing fresh air. You'll be lucky. Then a few rays of sunlight penetrate through the clouds. Fasten your seatbelt. I'm in the plane already.
In Berlin, the creative studios and rooftop clubs are back in. I recall all the contemprary art, design and urban edge Berlin promised me in my wispy reveries during the flight. In fact, urban act is ubiquitous in Berlin, converting the city onto an immense open-air art gallery. Students fresh out of the top art schools take to the streets and stake out their territory for full expression: stickers, collages and many more... Kreuzberg, Mitte and Warschauer Straße districts are where it's happening when it comes to Berlin street art. With its designer boutiques, galleries, restaurants and daring new bars, Berlin has become the center of bohemian chic since reunification.
Leipzig is the exact opposite. The architectural style is typical from ex-DDR Germany. The buildings are colorfull, the streets are free and easy, the people are warm. I can tell, having my first couchsurfing experience there. Sometimes, I wish I was a great navigator or a pioneer. No one could better convey the thrill of heading into the unknown, the sheer joy of feeling alive.
